The present volume is the third in the series of development and its challenges in West Bengal. The success of democracy depends on good governance and zero level of corruption. Maximization of happiness of people and prevalence of peace and tranquility are preconditions for the survival of a democratic government. On the other hand, un-fulfillment of Constitutional rights, threat to public life and property, growth of syndicate raj, establishment of party raj, lack of employment opportunities, atrocities against women, rampant corruption merely explicate the government’s failure and inability to control and manage the state affairs. This volume delineates the developmental contradictions of West Bengal since last four decades followed by recommendations and prescriptions to the People in Power.
