AN UNHAPPY INCIDENT Date : 17.11.2014 Time: 5.25 PM
by
Dr. Keshab Chandra Mandal
Today in the examination hall, one teacher entered without permission and took the History question from a student. He then began to tell the answers to the students. I stopped him immediately with folded hands. And requested him not to talk in the examination hall, as the good students (there were 16 science students also in the hall) will feel disturbed. Besides, I maintain complete discipline in the examination halls. That teacher came down from the hall and complained to the head of the institution, saying that Dr. Mandal insulted my in front of so many students.
I, after the completion of the examination asked that teacher, whether the question was tough, and secondly whether any student sought his assistance in relation to question. He said, as the syllabus has changed this year, the boys could not write properly, so I had gone to assist the boys. I said, is it the right place to advice or talk with the students? He said, I wanted to help the students, as they failed to understand. I asked how did not you know that the boys did not understand, he could not say anything (as none of the students asked anything to the teacher). Moreover, he is not given the duty in the rook not as a reliever even. But, like the previous cases, this time also some teachers supported his stand as he went to tell the answers to the students. So many irrelevant and illegal words were told by some teachers. Like...."He was right to help the students" Others say,"One teacher must not be so strict in the hall" another asked me, "What would you do if your daughter were there in the hall?" I could not respond to those nonsense words. I just said, "It is wrong and illegal to allow students to copy or talk. It disturbs the good students. Secondly, when the question papers of board or any other outside agencies, the teachers should not interpret or explain to the students. One (teacher) can tell, if the student/s ask for." One earlier good, now turned B said, "It is not of board, it is purchased from STA (an independent organization), so he was right. Actually it seems to me that the society has so deteriorated that, people fail to understand what is good and what is bad, what is legal and what is illegal, what is ethical and what is unethical. In today's world, one honest and sincere teacher or man has little place to stand and work honestly and sincerely.
